A winning entry in the City of Atlanta’s Green Infrastructure Design Challenge, Starr Whitehouse’s design for the campus of Continental Colony Elementary School combines physical and social infrastructure to enhance water quality while furthering the school’s educational mission. Each intervention will be accompanied by an educational kiosk with interpretive signage and interactive digital exercises that students can access on their devices. Designed to be legible at the surface level, this immersive infrastructural experience aids instruction of water retention issues while providing immediate relief for the site’s strained stormwater infrastructure. Currently entering implementation, when complete, the project will become a unique educational, social, and environmental node in Atlanta and a model for community-driven green infrastructure solutions across the region.
