Jeffrey Poor brings more than 30 years of experience conceptualizing, formulating and implementing sustainable and compelling site design. Beginning with the ambitious restoration of Central Park, his work has emphasized natural materials, native plants, and creative stormwater management — integrated with the social and aesthetic aspirations of the Greensward Plan. Projects such as the Central Park Great Lawn, Harlem Meer, North Meadow, and West Side landscapes reinvigorated the Park’s ideals of social and environmental stewardship, developing sustainable design solutions long before the term gained its present currency. As Partner at Starr Whitehouse, Jeff plays a lead role in making the design team’s ideas a reality. His vision and technical mastery weave together diverse and competing variables into high-performing environments that advance a greener, more socially resilient vision of the city. Jeff’s award-winning work includes twenty-five years of collaboration with The Battery Conservancy; the stepped courtyard at VIA 57 West; dozens of school, library, health, and university campuses; memorial landscapes at Emory Oxford College, Marsha P Johnston State Park, and New York’s Vietnam Vets Memorial Plaza; and many miles of ecologically vibrant and resilient shoreline proven in real-world storms.
