Hassan Saleem

Landscape Designer, Urban Planner

Originally from the Maldives, Landscape Designer and Urban Planner Hassan Saleem is passionate about preparing urban communities for climate change through resilient open space design, public-realm renewal, and community engagement. Before joining Starr Whitehouse, Hassan was a lead designer, planner, and project manager at ONE Architecture and Urbanism. There, he supported technical-assistance efforts for the Climate Strong Communities program, led by the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice. He facilitated conversations with agency representatives, coordinated subconsultant teams, and completed planning and design studies across New York City’s five boroughs. Hassan has also developed innovative community-engagement tools, including Finding Ground, a graphic novella that encourages conversations about managed retreat and voluntary buyouts. The project grew from his graduate research and was created in collaboration with Rebuild by Design, the Weitzman School of Design, and ONE Architecture and Urbanism.
