Hunters Point South rethinks the parameters of affordable housing, offering luxury amenities to residents of the complex’s 925 low-rent units. The amenity terrace provides a high density of social and recreational spaces framed by gray birch trees and dense plantings that create intimate spaces for dining and relaxation. This woodland transitions up to a sunning deck surrounded by grasses and wildflowers overlooking the East River. On the building’s eastern terrace, an urban farm run in partnership with a local non-profit offers residents access to affordable and nutritious food, and even an in-house apiary. A fifth floor viewing garden provides the environmental benefits of a green roof, while offering a contemplative space to escape the city and enjoy the view.
