Gramercy Park is both a neighborhood icon and a beloved living landscape that requires active management and planning. This gated park, the centerpiece of a Landmark district, is managed by Trustees who in turn must manage their constituents’ desires to improve the park, influence the park’s appearance and operations. Starr Whitehouse’s Master Plan report investigates the conditions and character of the planted areas and hardscape elements and articulates a plan to restore the park through planned capital improvements and strategic donations. The intent of the final recommendations is to maintain historical integrity, cultivate diversity in the plant palette, define the park’s boundaries and to promote sustainable maintenance.
