Sandwiched between Oyster Bay, to the south, and Long Island Sound, to the north, the seaside village of Bayville has the bones of the all-American village. Working closely with the Mayor, Starr Whitehouse developed a plan to make Bayville look and work more like a Main Street. A first analysis revealed that local shop owners’ issues may be addressed by urban design interventions, such as reconnecting misaligned and undersized sidewalks. The village is simply difficult to navigate on foot. Starr Whitehouse developed a design vision for the Village of Bayville and is now working with the Village of Bayville to further strategic projects. Starr Whitehouse’s work blends policy actions with design interventions into a plan that will make Bayville a walkable, workable hamlet.
