Hoboken Southwest Block 12 Park

Hoboken Southwest Block 12 Park

Hoboken, NJ

In the midst of Hoboken’s dense Southwest District, the transformation of Block 12 from a surface parking lot to an urban park will bring much-needed open and recreational space to the city, offer an opportunity for strategic storm-water storage, and create a new center for community life in the city’s evolving southwest neighborhood. As the first segment of a planned 6-acre urban oasis, the park will be a focal point for the community as it shifts away from a paved, impervious, and car-centric landscape. After three interactive public meetings and an online survey, Starr Whitehouse developed a design for the community park that converts the underperforming lot to a space that benefits both the community and the environment of Hoboken.
