Perched on a ridgeline that separates a gently rolling meadow to the south from the forested wilderness tumbling downhill to the north, this family retreat comprises three zigzagging pavilions sited to capture unobstructed, 100-mile views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Architect Peter Gluck called on Starr Whitehouse as collaborators in realizing his vision for the landscape design, which uses native plantings and sculptural earthworks to create a series of framed, composed views that complement the residence’s architectural boldness and integrate with the surrounding landscape. A long, wooded drive leads visitors to an intimate entry courtyard framed by angular berms. Planting beds feature native species, including several large specimen trees.
